Despite the Down East area of Eastern North Carolina being rocked by Hurricane Florence, the community is showing its true colors.

The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center received more than $2 million in damages. The community is rallying together to display their waterfowl heritage this weekend.

Held in conjunction with the Core Sound Decoy Festival at Harkers Island School, the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center will bring together all the rich traditions of eastern Carteret County with exhibitors, local seafood, music and special events.

Events include a Friday night seafood and game-opening reception. Special guest Vivian Howard, of "Chef & the Farmer," is signing books from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.

The weekend begins on Friday evening and runs through Sunday afternoon. CLICK HERE for more event information.
