USO of Jacksonville still needs donations days before Thanksgiving

USO of Jacksonville still needs donations days before Thanksgiving. (Merrilee Moore, NewsChannel 12)

The USO of North Carolina Jacksonville center suffered its own fair share of damage during Hurricane Florence.

Five feet of water flooded the basement, destroying many of the donations the organization had saved for Thanksgiving.

Empty shelves once lined with food need to be filled by Thursday. The main needs right now are desserts, dinner rolls and cranberry sauce.

Etta Dougherty donated much-needed cranberry sauce on Monday but her dedication to the USO goes back decades.

"I used to volunteer and come down and serve cakes and cookies. We had a dessert line for the young military on the weekends and special days you know," said Dougherty.

If you would like to help, you can bring your donations to the USO of Jacksonville until Wednesday. The building is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The USO of North Carolina Jacksonville center is located at 9 Tallman Street, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
