A New Bern staple is opening up again for business.

Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant is open again more than two months after Hurricane Florence hit our area. The restaurant opened its doors at 5 p.m. Friday after a bevy of repair work.

It wasn't too long ago we saw the deck of the restaurant was a mess. But things are back to normal. Inside, things looked great and was set up ready for hungry customers.

General Manager Dean Quadir said he invited many of the plumbers and contractors who helped return the restaurant to its former self to enjoy a meal on them.

"Just moments after the storm had passed we received more emails and contact then I could even count from people all over the country you know with words of encouragement and support and told us they were going to come back," Quadir said. "I know it's going to take a while for New Bern as a whole to bounce back but we do expect quite a few more people next year and we are really looking forward to it."

The repairs ran an estimated $500,000 but Quadir said it was worth it to get things back to normal.
