The process of recovery from Hurricane Florence continues. The district’s top priority is on finishing the initial clean up and opening schools as quickly and safely as possible. Most importantly, we want to ensure the schools are safe and the air quality is good before allowing staff and students to return.
In addition to the damage to our schools, OCS currently has over 90 staff members who have been displaced from their personal homes because of this storm. We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding as we pick up the pieces and continue our efforts to get our schools back online.
In the continued effort to ensure the health, safety and security of our staff and students, we anticipate school will resume no earlier than Monday, October 8th. Therefore, OCS announces the following closure information for the week of October 1, 2018:
-- There will be no school for students from Monday, October 1 through Friday, October 5, 2018. OCS Before and After Care will also be closed during this time.
-- The Onslow Early College High School will resume classes on Monday, October 1, 2018. Parents and students have received additional information from their principal.
-- As soon as schools have been cleared, OCS staff will be notified by their supervisor when they will be able to return to their sites.
Pictures of storm damage, daily updates and more can be found by selecting the “Daily Updates” link on the district web page. Should any further announcements be necessary, notifications will be sent via our alert system. We will also notify the media, post the information on our district web page, www.onslow.k12.nc.us and share any updates on our social media sites.
We hope everyone will continue to stay safe as the process of recovery from Hurricane Florence continues. Even after our buildings are reopened, there will still be much work needed to truly get things back to normal. Thank you for your support, patience and understanding as we work to keep our students, staff and community safe.
