Mandatory evacuation issued for Carteret County
EMERALD ISLE, Carteret County —
Carteret County has issued a mandatory evacuation starting Tuesday at noon.
Residents and visitors in each city and town in the county are asked to evacuate to a safe location by Wednesday.
Below is the full press release with more information.
-- An evacuation order will be in effect for Atlantic Beach and all of Carteret County starting on Tuesday, September 11 at 12:00 Noon. All residents and visitors should evacuate and be at a safe location by 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 12.
-- Public shelters will be set up for evacuees outside of Carteret County. However, it might be more comfortable to stay at a hotel or friend’s home that is outside of the storm’s path. Monitor Carteret County’s Facebook page or download the ReadyNC app for updated shelter information.
-- All Carteret County Public Schools will be closed from Tuesday, September 11 through Friday, September 14.
-- No Re-Entry Passes will be issued after 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, September 12. Atlantic Beach Town Hall will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 13.
-- No access onto Bogue Banks will be allowed from the Atlantic Beach or Emerald Isle Bridges after 7:00 am on Thursday, September 13th. Everyone will be denied access onto the island at that time until further notice. A re-entry pass only pertains to entry onto the island after a storm.
