Many parents are feeling the stress of the holidays after Hurricane Florence rocked the Eastern North Carolina community, especially Jones County.

Thursday is the last day for Jones County families to apply for Christmas help from the Salvation Army. Families in Jones County needing Christmas assistance can come to the Pollocksville Town Hall and put in an Angel Tree application through Thursday.

"We try to capture to the peace and joy of the season even in the wake of a pretty difficult time," Pollocksville Mayor Jay Bender said.

The Salvation Army wants to help and Bender hopes the Christmas Angel program can do that.

"There needs to be some Christmas," Bender said. "This is a great opportunity for help to come in and provide a little bit of Christmas in what for many will be kind of a bleak year. This could be a real bright spot."

NewsChannel 12's Merrilee Moore is answering questions on how families in need can receive help.
