NEW BERN, Craven County — The City of New Bern reported around 150 people who were in need of rescue Thursday night and Friday morning due to Hurricane Florence.
The eye of the storm was very near the coast at around 4 a.m. Friday. However, the storm has been so strong, massive flooding has led to situations where people need to be rescued who stayed behind and didn't heed the mandatory evacuation notices. Click here to see The City of New Bern tweet.
A number of people reported needing assistance in New Bern. There were also calls for help in Havelock and parts of Pamlico County.
CrowdSource Rescue is a website that was used extensively last year during Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. It was used to help people during that storm in 2017. The website said more than 35,000 people have used the map and received assistance.
