Emmy-nominated anchor Valentina Wilson is passionate about story-telling and sharing information with the people of Eastern North Carolina. She anchors NewsChannel 12 at 5, and 6 pm.
Valentina is an award-winning journalist who has worked as a TV reporter and news/weather anchor in her hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Lafayette, Louisiana. She joined the NewsChannel 12 team in 2010.
Valentina’s work has been recognized by the Associated Press, Radio and Television News Directors Foundation, Nashville/MidSouth Emmy Chapter and other prestigious journalism groups. She was also part of WCTI’s Edward R. Murrow award-winning news team.
In addition, Valentina has several years of experience in freelance newspaper/magazine writing and editing, public relations and media relations.
Her journalistic talents took her all the way to Germany, where she interviewed politicians and religious leaders, stood before the remnants of the Berlin Wall, and attended a NATO briefing in Brussels, Belgium. She was one of only a handful of fellows nationwide selected by the RTNDF/RIAS Berlin Commission for the two-week-long program.
Valentina is a proud graduate of football powerhouse, LSU, which happens to have the same team colors as ECU – purple and gold. She earned a BA in Broadcast Journalism, graduating summa cum laude.
Valentina started writing creatively at a young age and currently has a 230-page novel under her belt. Her hobbies include gardening, photography, crafting, cooking, antiquing and anything related to fashion.
She also loves giving back to the community and helping out with a number of civic and philanthropic causes. In 2013, she founded the Teen Fashion Academy which mentors pre-teen and teenage girls.
Valentina enjoys spending her free time with her family, including her young daughter, and exploring the many scenic treasures Eastern Carolina has to offer.
