Luke Schwartz

Sports Reporter

Luke Schwartz comes to WCTI and New Bern from Portland, OR. Born and raised on the West Coast, he spent the majority of his life playing numerous sports including football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was a youth football referee and earned his black belt in Taekwondo at the age of ten.

He attended Whitworth University, home of the Pirates, in Spokane, WA and majored in Mass Communications with a minor in Marketing. Luke worked for the college radio station, live broadcasted Division III athletic events, conducted sideline interviews, and thoroughly enjoyed the small campus community where everybody knows each other.

Luke then attended grad school at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications earning his Master’s degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism. Luke took full advantage of the many opportunities to call play-by-play for ACC games, hosted a weekly radio program, and co-anchored in-studio shows for the ACC Network.

He joins the WCTI team fresh off an internship with Fox 46 Charlotte where he provided daily coverage of the Carolina Panthers training camp at Wofford College in South Carolina. He is looking forward to getting to know the local community better and bringing the latest in sports to WCTI viewers.

Luke is also a lifelong Seattle Seahawks, Mariners, and Portland Trailblazers fan. He continues to champion bringing the SuperSonics back to Seattle and the MLB to Portland. He will eat breakfast at any time of the day and when he is not working, chances are Luke is at the gym or a local coffee shop!
