We are looking forward to Week 5 of the High School Football season. Conference play is underway for some teams and we have some heavyweight backyard brawls to get us started, including rivals East Duplin and James Kenan meeting in the appropriately named Warsaw.
The Panthers beat the Tigers in two close games last year, those two wins part of East Duplin's 18-game winning streak.
NFL
Thursday Night Football has the Eagles hosting the Vikings at 8:15. We will see if former JH Rose star Kentavius Street gets his first game action for Philly.
In the NFL, The Panthers have signed former Bunn High School and NC A&T All-Pro Tarik Cohen to their practice squad. The 5'6 running back last played in an NFL game in 2020 when he blew out his knee in the 3rd game of that season. He later tore his Achilles in a return attempt last year. He says he's healthy and ready to help the Cats.
The Panthers also placed starting left guard Brady Christensen on injured reserve with a bicep injury. Coach Frank Reich is trying to find a replacement for number 70. The Panthers host the Saints Monday night.
Baseball
The Wood Ducks will try to clinch their semi-final playoff series with the Mudcats when they play at Grainger Stadium tonight in Game 2 of their Best-Of-Three series. The Woodies won Game 1 on the road.
Former West Craven and ECU star Shawn Armstrong had another perfect inning of relief for the Twins. He struck out one in the 6th and helped keep the game tied so his team could end up winning 5-4 and are on track to get a wild card berth for the playoffs.
