The home opener for the Down East Wood Ducks is Thursday night. Fans will have a new sight to see and enjoy for the game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The team unveiled it's new attraction Thursday morning, the new Mother Earth Pavilion. The new two-level pavilion provides a wonderful view of the park during games and a spot for fans to enjoy some local Kinston beer from Mother Earth Brewery.

"It will be a great space for fans," said Wade Howell, General Manager of the Wood Ducks. "We didn't have an area like this where we could host corporate outings or fans could just kind of hang out and socialize and enjoy the game. So from that standpoint, it kind of brings Grainger Stadium up to date with most other ballparks in the Carolina League."

The game with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans is at 7 p.m. with first pitch at 7:05. The gates to Grainger Stadium open Thursday at 5:30 p.m. It will be a rematch of last year's Southern Division Championship Series, which Down East won. The Carolina League Championship was canceled due to Hurricane Irma, leaving the Wood Ducks as co-champions with the Lynchburg Hillcats.

Next, the Woodies finally return home for a seven-game homestand at Grainger Stadium. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will come to town for the first four games in a Southern Division Championship Series rematch. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. on Thursday and the gates open at 5:30 for the home opener.
