Wood Ducks fall to Charleston, ECU preps for Marshall

The Down East Wood Ducks are a game behind the Salem Red Sox for a playoff spot in the Low-A East League with just five games to play in the regular season.

Wednesday night, Down East struggled in an 8-2 defeat against the Charleston Riverdogs.

LuisAngel Acuna homered for Down East, his 12th of the season but back-to-back homers from Beau Brundage and Matt Dyer helped Charleston get the win.

In college football, ECU is preparing for a Saturday game at Marshall.

The two teams haven't played since 2013 but Marshall is off to a hot start, outscoring opponents 93-17.

ECU leads the all time series with Marshall 10-5.

The NC State football team is also looking to redeem themselves this week as the Pack come off a 24-10 road loss to Mississippi State last weekend.

State hosts Furman this week. The Paladins are 2-0 and fresh off a 26-0 shutout win at Tennessee Tech last week.

Kick-off for that game is slated for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

In high school football, JH Rose's game against Jacksonville has been moved to Sept. 28.

Washington is now playing Northern Nash Friday and they will have a moment of silence before the game to honor a player who passed away last week.
