CHARLOTTE — Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Thomas Davis said on Twitter Wednesday night he won't be playing for the team next season.
Davis said he's not retiring and feels he "has way too much football left in him to walk away." Davis, a three-time Pro Bowler, has been in the NFL for 14 seasons. This was the last season of his current contract.
“I've loved and cherished every moment we've had in Carolina and Carolina's always going to be home for me and my family, but I'm not retiring," Davis said in the tweet.
Thomas Davis has battled some injuries over the years but has been a consistent player on the defense, earning captain honors the past seven seasons. In 2015, he was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year for his work as founder of the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation.
