Hurricanes go up 2-0 on Islanders in NHL Playoffs, ECU baseball beats Charlotte

In the NHL Playoffs, the Carolina Hurricanes took on the New York Islanders in Game 2 of their series in Raleigh Wednesday, Apr. 19, 2023.

The game went into overtime before Jesper Fast scored the game-winner.

Stefan Noesen, Paul Stastny and Jaccob Slavin all scored a goal apiece for Carolina.

Game 3 will be Friday night in New York.

In college baseball, No. 7 ECU hit the road to take on Charlotte Wednesday night.

Justin Wilcoxen homered for the Pirates, his sixth of the year, as ECU got out of town with a 6-2 victory.

ECU is at Wichita State for three games over the weekend.

ECU baseball player Parker Byrd, who lost his leg in a boating accident, was at the Houston Astros game Wednesday night and threw out a ceremonial first pitch.

In Minor League Baseball, the Down East Wood Ducks suffered a 5-2 loss for the second-straight day to the Carolina Mudcats.

The teams will meet up the rest of the week through Sunday.

In community college baseball, Pitt Community College and Lenoir Community College split a double-header.

Pitt won the first game, 9-5, and Lenoir took the second, 9-6.

In high school football news, former Riverside High quarterback Jysen Shepherd is transferring to J.H. Rose.

Shepherd passed for 2,818 yards and 34 touchdowns against seven interceptions as a freshman last season for the Knights.

In the NBA Playoffs, the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks matched up in Game 2 of their series in Wisconsin Wednesday night.

Northside of Beaufort County alum Bam Adebayo scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds as Miami fell to the Bucks, 138-122.
