ECU baseball sweeps weekend series vs. UCF, UNC's Love transfers to Michigan

GREENVILLE, Pitt County — ECU's baseball team wrapped up a weekend series with Central Florida Friday, Apr. 7, 2023 in Greenville.

The Pirates had their struggles, leaving 19 runners on base but pulled out a 3-2 victory on a walk-off hit by Justin Wilcoxen in the bottom of the 12th inning.

ECU improves to 24-8 and take on Old Dominion next week Tuesday.

Rain washed away two series in the ACC that were supposed to get started Friday night.

Virginia Tech at Duke has been pushed to Saturday at 7 p.m. and then a double-header Sunday, starting at noon.

N.C. State and Wake Forest also had their series postponed to Saturday and Sunday.

The Tar Heels split the games with the Yellow Jackets, winning the first game 10-6 and falling in the second, 8-4.

Sticking with UNC, in college basketball news, Caleb Love is now officially a former Tar Heel.

Love announced his commitment to transfer to Michigan.

Love averaged 16.7 points for UNC this past season, shot 37.8 percent from the field and averaged 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

Another former Tar Heel, Kinston's Dontrez Styles is set to announce his new home Sunday.

Styles is choosing between N.C. State, ECU and Georgetown.

In Augusta, in the PGA, Friday was the second round of The Masters and Brooks Koepka is the leader halfway through the tournament at -12.

Jon Rahm is in second place at -9, amateur Sam Bennett is in third at -8 and Viktor Hovland and Colin Morikawa are tied at -6.

ECU alum Harold Varner III is now -1 for the tournament after a -1 round on Friday.
