CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) - Change is coming 'round real soon for Jack and Diane, the donkey and emu duo abandoned in South Carolina. Turns out, their story is getting a Hollywood ending-- as a TV villain but real-life animal lover stepped up to adopt the pair.

Negan -- or Denny Duquette, for some of you-- actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan learned about Jack and Diane on social media, reaching out to animal rescue Carolina Waterfowl on Twitter, inquiring about adoption.

"Hey there... read the story... if you are looking for a forever home for jack and diane? Happy to take them, and keep them together at our farm. They would be a welcome addition to our menagerie of happy creatures. Xojd," Morgan wrote.

Morgan and Jennifer Gordon, the rescue's founder, began emailing.

“It was clear he is an animal lover and his farm was fabulous,” says Gordon told the Charlotte Observer. “I am embarrassed to say I had to ask who that was. I don’t really watch a lot of television. I definitely knew who he was when I saw the picture. I have seen episodes of the ‘Walking Dead.’”

Carolina Waterfowl made the drive to Hudson Valley, New York, Tuesday to drop off the best friends at Morgan's farm.

Jack and Diane became internet sensations because of their intense bond. Volunteers tried separating them, but the donkey cried and the emu became frantic.

They cuddle, sleep together, and the rescue insisted the pair be adopted together.

Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, based in Indian Trail near Charlotte, rescued the animals from Kershaw, South Carolina, after their owner suddenly vanished, abandoning a 'menagerie of pets, including dogs, cats and chickens.'

Morgan is known for his current role as Negan on AMC's "The Walking Dead," but others may recall his love affair with Izzy Stevens in his role as Denny Duquette on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy."
