UPDATE: 21-year-old accused of running over nail salon owner captured in Arizona
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) - UPDATE ON JAN. 11: The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports that Krystal Whipple has been captured.
She was arrested in Glendale, Ariz., on Friday morning.
Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the arrest, according to the Glendale, Ariz., Police Department. The FBI declined to comment to News 3.
LVMPD continues their manhunt for a 21-year-old woman accused of running over a nail salon owner.
Surveillance video has been watched all over the world, and her mugshot has been seen by countless people, but the driver behind the wheel of the car remains on the run.
Krystal Whipple, 21, is accused of skipping out on a $35 bill on Dec. 29th at Crystal Nails off of Flamingo and Decatur. The credit card she tried to use had been reported stolen and was declined.
Shortly after Whipple fled, the nail salon owner Nhu Nguyen and her boyfriend ran out of the shop to stop Whipple but events turned tragic after Whipple refused to stop and Nguyen was fatally run over.
It's possible Whipple is out of the state.
"I would reiterate that if Krystal is listening right now, the best thing for you to do is turn yourself in," Lt. Ray Spencer with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said. "We are going to catch her. It's just a matter on how long it's going to be."
Detectives tell us Whipple had a history of fraudulent crime before the murder. They say she stole someone's identity and rented a car. There were also fraudulent documents found in that rental car. It was a fingerprint that led to officers to identify Whipple as the woman in the surveillance video.
Police say despite their frustration in locating Whipple, they are confident she will be caught.
"It does get a little frustrating in the sense you can't catch someone you been looking for nine straight days," said Lt. Spencer said. "We put an extraordinary amount of resources into tracking her, but again, it has been difficult."
