9-year-old girl saves her mother and sister's lives after car crash
TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) - A 9-year-old girl is now being hailed a hero for saving not only her mother's life but also her sister's.
On March 5, Kristy Nix and her two daughters Delaney and Gracey were driving on Road 224 near Avenue 88 when a car blew a stop sign and crashed into the car the family was in.
Kristy and Delaney were knocked unconscious and the car was smoking. That's when Gracey, 9, jumped into action, pulling her mother and sister from the car and then calling her father for help, Sergeant Brian Nix PIO of the Porterville Police Department.
Gracey didn't know where they were but with the help of her father along with the California Highway Patrol they were able to locate them.
During the course of an investigation, police say it was determined that a 20-year-old man failed to stop at the stop sign as Nix's Dodge entered the intersection. The front of the family's SUV collided with the right side of the young man's car causing his car to overturn. Officers say the 20-year-old man died on scene.
