VANCEBORO, Craven County —
A West Craven High School student has been charged after a loaded gun was found in his vehicle.
The Craven County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday investigated the incident after it was notified by the school. A student told a staff member about the suspect having a gun. The School Resource Office on campus was alerted and that officer located the handgun in the vehicle.
The student, who is not being identified because they are a minor, has been charged as an adult with felony possession of a firearm on educational property.
"The safety of our students is a top priority and there will be zero tolerance for those who bring weapons on our school campuses," Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said.
