Two suspects in Christmas Eve murder in Beaufort Co. arrested

Two suspects have been arrested and charged in a murder case that happened on Christmas Eve.

Khalif Muhammed Newmones, 25, of 252 Duke Street in Belhaven, and Alicia Hassona Polen, 27, of 1903 Cooney Cir. in Augusta, Ga. were arrested on Sunday in Georgia. The Greenville Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and the NC SBI Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force were involved in the arrests along with members of the SBI Task Force, the FBI and the Richmond County Georgia Sheriff’s Office.

Both have been charged with Accessory after the Fact to Murder. They are being held in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta, Ga., without bond and are awaiting extradition back to Beaufort County.

Jayquwan Lamar Newmones, 23, is still wanted for murder and is believed to be in the Augusta, Georgia area. Beaufort County Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on December 24, the body of Timothy Bernard Moore of Belhaven was discovered on a dirt road off of Beech Ridge Road. A passing motorist made the discovery and reported it to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, officials said in a press release. Investigators suspected foul play in Moore's death from the start. After processing the scene for over 7 hours, investigators recovered over 30 pieces of physical evidence believed to be associated with the crime.
