The National Weather Service received reports of a possible waterspout or tornado that landed in the Emerald Isle area Thursday night.

A preliminary local storm report indicates the possible waterspout or tornado landed around 6:45 p.m. on Eastview Drive. It was reported via NC Emergency Management.

Representatives from the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City will likely investigate the area Friday to confirm what the storm was.

The NWS is also likely to investigate a reported funnel cloud that was in the Northern Hyde/Southern Tyrrell County area around 7:30 p.m. That investigation would be conducted if there was damage.

A tornado warning was issued for that area until 8:15 p.m. Thursday.
