JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County — In an "abundance of caution," the Onslow County Government Center was evacuated due to a natural gas leak.

Due to an 8-inch natural gas leak in Burton Park and in an abundance of caution, the Onslow County Government Center has evacuated as of Wednesday, December 12th at 12:30 p.m. Please stay away from the Onslow County Government Center located in Burton Park and the surrounding area. If you live in the area, please remain indoors unless someone comes and tells you to leave. Emergency responders are currently on the scene and crews from the gas company are responding to the area.
According to officials, a construction crew was digging and accidentally hit the gas line. The Excel Learning Center and the government building were evacuated.
The Onslow County Government Center will reopen on Thursday at 8:00 a.m.
