Luke Bennett, an Oak Island man, is hiking 1,175 miles from the Outer Banks to Great Smokies to raise awareness about habitat diversity across the state.

Bennett, 22, will start Wednesday at Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head.

Bennett said he wants to give back celebrating the beauty of North Carolina.
