North Topsail Beach wants old Christmas trees for dunes

Christmas 2018 is over. The presents are unwrapped. The leftovers are in the fridge. Taking down your Christmas tree is inevitable.

The Town of North Topsail Beach wants that old tree. Placing natural trees on the beach helps improve the health of the dune system.

Residents, property owners and visitors can now dispose of their Christmas trees at the beach access located at BA 31B, 315 New River Inlet Road at the far end of the new Jeffries lot.

You'll have three weeks after Christmas to drop off your no longer needed tree. Christmas lights and ornaments should be removed from the trees prior to disposal.

Once the trees are collected, town personnel and volunteers will place these along the oceanfront to facilitate and promote sand accumulation.

Anyone wanting to volunteer for any part of this initiative, or who has questions, can email Cameron Kuegel, Thomas Best, Bryan Chadwick or Laura Oxley.
