COROLLA, Currituck County — Officials say it appears the region’s famed wild horses made it through Hurricane Isaias safely.
The Corolla Wild Horse Fund said there was no damage at the farm and the wild horses woke up the following morning saying, “You call that a hurricane?”
Hurricane season has just begun, so officials said while they will not let our guard down, they’re grateful that this one didn’t end up being too bad for the animals.
They also said the horses at Cedar Island all seem to be in good shape and no worse for wear after the storm, and the same is true of the wild beach cows.
Cows cast away by Dorian found alive on North Carolina island
The cows gained quite a following on social media after Hurricane Dorian last year swept them away and they were found later on a nearby island.
Foundation for Shackleford Horses and Cape Lookout National Seashore both posted that the horses were spotted and seem fine but a full census of the horse population will take longer.
