New Bern Police pull out win at Battle of the Badges blood drive (Daisha Jones, NewsChannel 12)

History repeats itself for January's Battle of the Badges blood drive in New Bern.

The New Bern Police Department went head to head with New Bern Fire-Rescue to see which agency could collect the most blood for the American Red Cross. And the police officers came out on top.

Kristin Willis, the Senior Account Manager with the American Red Cross, said it was a tight race this year. “We collected 139 units and New Bern Police Department won," said Willis. "It was close all day but the New Bern Police Department had 70 donors vote for them and the New Bern fire department had 60 votes .“

Overall, 139 total units of blood were collected during the drive.
