One killed in New Bern shooting

Shots were fired at the Trent Court Housing Complex Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023.

New Bern Police have confirmed one man, 28-year-old Devaughn D. Bryant, was killed.

The investigation has turned into a homicide investigation.

More than a dozen officers worked the crime scene earlier Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to the call near the P Building on Fleet Street at 3:48 p.m.

Investigators said they found Bryant on a sidewalk.

Bryant was rushed to CarolinaEast Medical Center where police said he later died.

Witnesses said they heard five shots and everyone scattered.

One witness said he was driving in the community, heard the shots and rushed to help Bryant with his medical kit.

No suspect or suspects have been identified

At this time – we do not know if police have anyone in custody but they say there’s no threat to the public.
