New Bern Police give all clear after bomb threat at middle school

New Bern Police gave an all clear update following a bomb threat Thursday at Grover C. Fields Middle School in New Bern.

New Bern Police evacuated students and staff from Grover Fields Middle School Thursday morning after reports of a bomb threat. Students were taken to H.J. MacDonald Middle School to either be picked up by their parents or have arrangements mad for school buses to take them home.No injuries were reported.

Craven County Schools reported the bomb threat on their Facebook page after notification of parents and authorities. CCS Superintendent Meghan Doyle told NewsChannel 12 it was important to note "the children were never in danger." She says all students were off campus by 12:30 p.m.New Bern Police Chief Toussaint Summers said that the department's first priority was the evacuation of the students. Roads were blocked off in the immediate areas surrounding the school while searches for any explosive device were conducted."Want to make sure not only are the students are safe but the public is safe as well," Summers said. "We take every threat seriously."
