The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is hosting a raffle of a Harley Davidson Fatboy 114 motorcycle on Sept. 1 in an effort to raise funds for a former sergeant forced to take medical retirement.

Sgt. Stephen Kelly Sutton was forced to medically retire in September 2017 due to a rare liver disorder and is now in need of a liver transplant to survive.

Sutton began his law enforcement career as a corrections officer in Nash County in 1991 and started with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office in 1999. He also worked in the towns of Wilson and Bethel.

To help raise money to cover the cost of the transplant, members of the sheriff's office are selling 1,000 tickets at $50 each. Fewer than 450 tickets remain.

To purchase a ticket, visit 2018fatboyraffle.com. The winner will be announced at the Winterville Hometown Harley Davidson on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
