Bobby Hurff is the leader of Peace Soldier Band. He's also a recovering addict.

"I've got a great group of guys and now a gal that has been working real hard with me. They've helped me grow so much," Hurff said.

Peace Soldier is a revamped version of the original Peace Soldier Band that started back in 1989. They will highlight the 3rd annual Rockin for Relief for Homeless Veterans, which will be held at the New Bern Farmer's Market from noon-6 p.m.

Hurff and the band's passion for helping veterans has extended to the annual event.

"This year, like I said, we have more homeless veterans that are just coming out of the woodworks and all the money that we raise here goes directly back to (Religious Community Services) because we're in partnership together."

The event is $20 and includes the acts Strung Together, Gypsie Sunrise, Joe Baez, Bi-Polar Express and an all girl AC/DC cover bank. Tickets are $20 and can be found at Fuller's Music, Mitchell Hardware, The Brown Pelican and online at PeaceSoldier.com.
