A local clinic is doing their part to help Coast Guardsmen as the partial government shutdown drags on.

Carolinas Center for Surgery kicked off "Project Coast Guard" on Wednesday. According to the group, over 200 Coast Guardsmen stationed at Fort Macon have been required to work since the partial government shutdown on Dec. 22, 2018. The purpose of the event is to collect non-perishable foods, personal hygiene products and toiletry items.

Donations will be accepted at all eight clinic locations. Their offices spread across Morehead City, Swansboro and Jacksonville. The first round of donations will be donated to the Coast Guardsmen and their families at Fort Macon on Friday.
