Officials battled a huge fire that took place at Sam's Used Furniture in Jacksonville on Tuesday.

The first was first reported around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. According to Jacksonville Public Safety, a call about the fire at 104 Marine Blvd. came in. Area businesses were evacuated and utilities were disconnected. N.C. Hwy. 24 east and westbound from the Beirut Memorial to Lejeune Motorsports was closed as crews responded to the fire.

As of 8 p.m., Jacksonville Public Safety said in a Facebook post eastbound Lejeune Boulevard was open for traffic in the area of the fire. One westbound lane was open and units were still on the scene.

The fire is pretty much under control but crews were still on the scene as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday monitoring the situation.

"I hate it for the families that had homes up on top, so they lost," said Kevin Scott of 5K's Barber Shop. "They look like they lost a lot. I hate seeing anybody lose anything in a fire."
