Hurricane Chris leaves area, rip current threats still high

Rip Current threat for Thursday (StormTrack 12 graphic)

Hurricane Chris is moving further and further away from Eastern North Carolina. However, the rip current threat for our coast still remains high.

Rip current threats will continue Thursday with a moderate risk along the Crystal Coast and a high threat from Cape Lookout to Duck. The National Weather Service in Morehead City/Newport reports lingering swells from Chris, combined with the tides, will continue to bring a risk of strong rip currents through Thursday. The report also says the dangerous surf conditions may persist through most of the week.

The NWS also reported 31 rip current rescues on Wednesday in Dare County.
