Hammocks Beach State Park rangers held a meeting with the public Monday to inform them about the construction and repair projects currently happening at the park.

Hurricane Florence did a number on the docks at Hammocks Beach. However, the storm may have brought light to a problem the park already had. Rangers said they noticed the docks being torn apart by tiny worms before the storm. Now, thy're fixing that problem and making the docks better than ever.

Blueprints show the new docks will be floating ones. Construction on those docks have begun, meaning parts of the park are closed to the public, including the ferry service. Until all renovations and repairs are finished at the park, rangers said they will continue to hold these monthly update meetings.

Park Rangers say they expect the ferry service to be back up and running by the summer.
