Greenville Police Athletic League Students gets scholarship

GREENVILLE, Pitt County - A Greenville child who plays football as part of the Greenville Police Athletic League received a $500 scholarship for college.

Greenville's Police Athletic League (PAL) is proud to congratulate Alphonso "Vito" Boyd for being selected by the American Youth Football (AYF) National as their 2016 AYF Regional Academic Scholarship Recipient. AYF is the largest youth football organization in the United States. The Atlantic Region consists of teams from Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington, DC.

A proven leader on and off the field, Vito's hard work has earned him a $500 scholarship for college. On the field he played defensive tackle where he was an integral component to his team winning four consecutive league championships and last season, earning MVP recognition. His work ethic and character has helped him excel academically where he served as class president, gave back to his classmates as a peer tutor for two years, takes accelerated math courses and has recently been accepted into the Health Sciences Academy. Vito will be attending Ayden-Grifton High School next year where he plans to continue his football career. Vito intends to attend college with the dream of becoming a Cardiothoracic surgeon. Vito is a shining example of Greenville-PAL's mantra, Eagle Pride: On the field, in the classroom, and in our community! Greenville-PAL will start the 2017 Football season at 6:00 PM on Monday, July 24th at the newly renovated South Greenville Gym. Applications are currently being accepted and are available from 8 AM to 8 PM at South Greenville or West Greenville Gym.
