Fight leads to lockdown at Onslow County jail

Two groups of inmates got into a fight Saturday, which led to a lockdown at the Onslow County Jail.

NewsChannel 12’s Merrilee Moore confirmed the incident with Col. Chris Thomas with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office. He told Moore the two groups of inmates got into a “verbal altercation” that turned into a physical fight around 12:15 p.m. Saturday. The fight lasted about a minute and a half.

Thomas also said the block of the jail where it happened was put on lockdown. There were no major injuries, just some bruises on inmates. No officers were hurt.

It is unclear what caused the fight and an investigation is happening to find out more.
