WINTERVILLE, Pitt County — If you've ever wondered what a loved one experiences as they cope with dementia, an event provided the unique opportunity to see the world through their eyes.
The Health Science Division at Pitt Community College hosted the first day of its Dementia Sensitivity Training Event on Wednesday.
PCC medical students had the chance to simulate what it's like to have dementia. They were asked to complete everyday tasks while wearing vision-distorting glasses, noisy headphones and shoes with spiky inserts.
After the hands-on demonstration, students attended a 2-hour lecture on how they can be better health care providers for those with dementia.
The second and final day of the event is Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
