Zack Baker is taking a stand. He's only 8-years-old, though. But that's not stopping him.

Baker is going around to businesses, raising money and prizes for an event he's holding in honor of his best friend who died of cancer.

His name was Seamus.

"They played baseball together," Kelly Baker, Zack's mother, said. "They were just normal kids and a friendshp was stolen too early."

"I played on the Tigers and he played on the Mariners," Zack Baker said.

Just a few months ago, Zack learned the unforgiving nature of cancer. Now, he's being strong for Seamus and others. He and his family are putting on an event to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Cancer Research Foundation.

The event is July 28 in Hubert at SBFA Bingo Hall. It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"It was hard to watch him go through this with his friend at such a young age," Kelly Baker said.

Zack said his goal was $500 and he was already nearing $800 when we talked with him.

"Anyone can come to the event to watch people get their heads shaved," Kelly Baker said.

Zack also is showing his support by having his head shaved, too. He did just that Tuesday.

"It feels much better," Zack said. "I like having my head shaved more than having hair."

His hair may be gone but his heart feels full.

"I just want to help others going through this," Zack said. "Cancer sucks."
