Your children are never too young to start learning about fire safety.

Greenville Fire/Rescue Life Safety Educator Rebekah Thurston on Tuesday showed dozens of preschoolers household items that are safe and not safe to touch, how to find fire exit signs and understanding the gear that firefighters wear. It was all a part of a story hour session at the east branch of Sheppard Memorial Library.

"You know we learn emergency awareness and fire safety when we're in school but I don't know if it always crosses our mind when we become parents and we think about keeping our kids safe and how to escape with the kid and how important those smoke alarms are," Thurston said.

A similar event will happen Thursday at the Carver Branch in Greenville.
