UPDATE: Charleston International Airport says the Air Force told them it may be possible to reopen the runways by 6 a.m. on Sunday. You can go to their website for the latest updates.

“We are committed to not only protecting the base from the effects of the storm, but assessing and recovering from any damage in a timely fashion,” said Col. Clint ZumBrunnen, 437th Airlift Wing commander. “Reopening the airfield will be contingent upon winds subsiding to limits for flight and in coordination with the lifting of the Governor’s mandatory evacuation order.”

Charleston International Airport originally said it would reopen on Saturday, and was hoping to resume commercial airline service at noon.

The airport says customers should contact their air carrier for information on cancellations, rebookings, and cancellation waivers.
