A brush fire threatened several homes in the Brices Creek area Saturday afternoon.

The No. 7 Township fire department responded to the fire on Crump Farm Road around 12:20 p.m.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Travis Blalock, the fire jumped across the street. It spread and came close to several homes and a nursery.

The West New Bern Fire Department was called in as mutual aid. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fires in 20 minutes.

No homes or structures were damaged, only grass was burned.

North Carolina Forestry came out to investigate the cause of the fire. They ruled the cause undetermined.

Chief Blalock recommends not burning outdoors in windy and dry conditions.
