Body found near December crash site of tractor-trailer

Driver still missing after driving off bridge in Kinston (Morgan Newell, NewsChannel 12)

A body was found Saturday morning in the Neuse River near the location where a tractor-trailer ran off the road and crashed in December.

ABC affiliate WTVD reports Jerri King, interim director of Lenoir County Emergency Services, said the body was found near the King Street boat landing. The body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for identification, King said.

The location is where, on Dec. 9, a tractor-trailer crashed through a guardrail and into the Neuse River during a winter storm. Dive teams and other officials spent days looking for the driver, who went missing after the accident.

The search was eventually scaled back to once every other day when the body wasn’t initially located.
