Ailing sailboat captain rescued by Coast Guard in Columbia

The Coast Guard came to the rescue of an ailing sailboat captain near Columbia.

According to a press release, a crew was called around 4:45 p.m. to an area for a sailboat captain experiencing pain and complications from a pre-existing medical condition. The crew was called from the Alligator River Marina in Columbia and arrived 13 minutes later south of the Alligator River Bridge. The boat was left anchored in the Alligator River and the captain and two passengers were brought to the Alligator River Marina and the captain was taken by local EMS to the hospital.

"We were glad to be able to take this man to shore to the medical attention he needed," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Brandon Bryant, response boat operator for the case. "The conditions were rough out there. We advise anyone not feeling well to stay off the water—especially in rough conditions."
