EMERALD ISLE, Carteret County — 29 year old Senator LeMay was identified as the tourist who was pronounced dead after bystanders pulled him from the Bogue Sound on Friday, according to Emerald Isle town manager, Frank Rush, Jr.
Captain Stuart Gilgo with the Emerald Isle Fire Department said they received a call around 2:11 p.m. about the man near the Emerald Isle bridge.
The Emerald Isle Fire Department, Emerald Isle EMS and the U.S Coast Guard responded.
When they arrived, they found friends of the tourist performing CPR on him, according to Captain Gilgo.
Crews then took LeMay, of Seabrook, Texas, by boat to the U.S. Coast Guard Station and then to Carteret Health Care, where he was pronounced dead.
Rush, Jr. said LeMay dove off a boat and into shallow water in the Bogue sound, but did not resurface.
It's unclear where LeMay was staying during his visit, or what his local connections may have been.
