Woman arrested for stealing mail, forgery and more

Reports of stolen mail all across Pitt County lands one woman behind bars.

Over the last two weeks, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of citizen’s having mail stolen from their mailboxes. According to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, the mail stolen was mostly personal checks.

Deputies arrested Hollie Chaimowitz after deputies learned someone was trying to cash the checks at financial institutions around Greenville. Authorities said the checks were forged before Chaimowitz tried to cash them.

Chaimowitz had other people's mail and personal checks in her possession at the time of her arrest, according to officials. Chaimowitz also had other ID’s she was using to attempt to cash the checks.

Chaimowitz was charged with multiple counts of larceny of chose in action (checks), forgery, uttering and identity theft.

The case is still under investigation at this time. More charges on Chaimowitz are expected in the near future.
