Two arrested on drug charges after months-long investigation

Two man have been arrested on drug charges after an investigation that spanned back to October 2017.

Solomon Jones, 62, of Maysville and Derek Hines, 64, of Havelock, were arrested and are facing drug charges after an investigation that involved the Havelock Police Department, Cherry Point NCIS, the Carteret County Sheriff's Office and the Morehead City Police Department. The investigation regarded the possession and sale of controlled substances.

Hines, who was arrested on Jan. 23, is is in the Craven County Jail under a $3 million bond. He is facing the following charges:

-- One (1) Count of …Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell and/or Deliver Schedule II

-- One (1) Count of…Manufacture Schedule II

-- One (1) Count of…Maintain a vehicle for selling controlled substances

-- Six (6) counts of …Trafficking opium or Heroin

Jones, arrested on Dec. 21, was placed in the Craven County Jail under a $750,000 bond. His charges are as follows:

-- Four (4) Counts of…Trafficking opium or heroin

-- One (1) Count of…Maintain vehicle for selling of controlled substances

Havelock Police say the investigation continues, and more charges and arrests are pending.
