Man arrested, charged with murder after shooting at Greenville airport
GREENVILLE, Pitt County —
Greenville Police have arrested a man and charged him with first degree murder after an early-morning shooting at the Pitt-Greenville Airport.
John Reid, 49, of Grimesland, is in the Pitt County Detention Center under no bond. He's charged with the murder of Joseph Pate, 52, of Beaufort County. Police said they responded to a call of shots fired outside the main entrance around 6 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found Pate suffering from gunshot wounds. He died on the scene.
GPD Major Crimes Detectives investigated and took Reid into custody a short time later. Officials said Pate and Reid knew each other and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The Sunday 11 a.m. flight out of Greenville was canceled out of safety precautions. The airport is now open for business with normal flights, GPD reports.
