Kinston Police announce arrest of shooting suspect in Boston

Kinston Police said a suspect in a shooting in May has been arrested in Boston.

Allen Devon Lewis had warrants issued for attempted first degree murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm on educational property and possession of a firearm by a felon. Lewis was arrested on Tuesday during a vehicle stop by the Boston Police Department and US Marshal Task Force in Boston. He was placed in the Boston Jail under no bond and is awaiting extradition.

Kinston Police said they responded to a call of shots fired at Southeast Elementary School in Kinston on May 8 around 7 p.m. Officers were also dispatched to 807 Chestnut Street. They found Rico Demecko Garner in a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his lower body. An investigation determined the shooting occurred at Southeast Elementary after school hours, near the basketball courts. Garner was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he recovered from his injuries.
