    A Kinston man has died from his injuries after authorities say he was shot Monday night.

    Just before 9:30 p.m. on Monday, the Kinston Police Department got a call saying a person was shot.

    The Kinston Police Department identified the victim Tuesday morning. 23-year-old Quantae Dixon was shot while sitting in a parked vehicle in the 900 block of Doctors Drive in Kinston.

    Dixon was taken to UNC Lenoir and then rushed to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville before he passed away.

    The investigation is in its "preliminary stages," according to Major Tim Dilday.

    "The Kinston Police Department places the highest priority on investigating crimes of violence perpetrated in our city. We will investigate such cases with no compromise for crime, and continue to seek assistance from the communities that we proudly serve," said Major Dilday.
