The new Purple Pantry at East Carolina University's campus is trying to make sure every student will have food for the holiday season.

Since the pantry opened in August, it's already distributed 1,500 pounds of food to more than 40 students, which equates to more than 380 meals.

"We open the door and they see that there's, you know, shelves of food here and immediately they're overwhelmed," said Jarmichael Harris, the coordinator of the pantry. "Some were even brought to tears by the opportunity to receive something that they didn't know even existed on campus."
